According to Terry Heick (2013), the formal definition of citizenship combined with the digital aspect is "the quality of response to membership in a digital community." He also goes on to define it for educators as "the quality of habits, actions, and consumption patterns that impact the equality of digital content and communities." Digital citizenship has to do with the way that people present themselves online and interact with others in an online community.
Interactions online are becoming even more common as time goes on, and they are often more frequent than time spent in person. Developing a persona online that matches a person's true personality is sometimes tough to master, but posting and communicating online demands the ability to present oneself as a positive, capable, respectful, and responsible person in the digital world. |
